Andre, a French offficer separated from his regiment, runs about looking for a way back to his unit in Koblenz. When he makes his way to the shore of the sea (quite a long ways from Koblenz on the Rhine, you must admit), he runs into a strange woman, Helen, whom he falls in love with before even getting to know her name (oh, those Frenchmen!). But just as soon as he meets her, she seems to disappear into thin air! Andre just has to find her. In his search, he comes across the castle of Baron Leppe. Andre doesn't realize that Helen is actually the spirit of Ilsa, the mistress of the castle, who died twenty years earlier. 

André, Angehöriger einer Kriegsarmee wird von seinem Regiment getrennt und irrt wahllos umher. An einer Meeresküste lernt er die geheimnisvolle Helen kennen und auch lieben. Kurze Zeit später ist sie spurlos verschwunden. André muss sie finden. Bei seiner Suche stößt er auf das Schloss des Baron Leppe. André ahnt nicht, dass Helen der Geist von Ilsa ist - der Schlossherrin, die 20 Jahre zuvor verstorben war.
