St. Kathrein ist ein idyllisches Bergdorf in den Alpen. Der reiche, allseitig beliebte Gutsbesitzer Martin und die fremde, aus einfachen Verhältnissen stammende und von den Ortsbewohnern abgelehnte Sennerin Liesl sind ineinander verliebt. Es ist jedoch auch die wohlhabende Wirtstochter Johanna von Martin fasziniert, die daher versucht, Liesl und Martin voneinander zu trennen.

St. Kathrein is an idyllic mountain village in the Alps.  The rich, and from all sides beloved, estate holder Martin is in love with the milkmaid Liesl, who is not from the village, comes from a humble background, and is rejected by all the townspeople.  Then there’s the innkeeper’s daughter Johanna, who is fascinated with Martin and thus tries everything to split up Liesl and Martin.
