Egy Tisza-parti faluban együtt tölti nyári szünidejét hat fiú és két lány. Az összeszokott társaság fürödni megy. Vidáman töltik a napot, sütkéreznek a parti homokon, lubickolnak, virtuskodnak a hűs hullámokban és eközben éri őket életük első tragédiája: egyik társuk a vízbe fullad. Ettől kezdve a társaság eddig jellegtelen tagjai egyenként egyéniséggé formálódnak. Mindegyikük számvetést készít: megvizsgálja a környező világgal, a halott baráttal és a többiekkel való kapcsolatát, mindegyikükben felmerül az egymás iránti felelősség problémája. 

Six boys and two girls take a trip to a riverside village during their summer vacation.  The close friends end up going for a swim.  They cheerfully spend the day basking in the sun on the shore of the river; splashing and clowning around like kids the world over do.  But they’ll soon be exposed to the first tragedy of their young lives:  one of them is about to drown.  From then on, the nondescript members of this miniature society will develop individuality.  All of them will closely examine their personal world and reconcile with it.  And they will be forced to confront their individual responsibility for the tragic event.
